My total fee for homebirth midwifery services is currently $4,900.
Included are these services and supplies (for a more detailed list go to the page Overview of Homebirth Services)
· prenatal, birth, and postpartum care
· ordering all necessary or desirable tests and obstetric procedures
· acupuncture treatment with an expert practitioner, up to 3 sessions
· all medical and disposable birth supplies – no need to buy a birth kit (typically $75-$100)
· an inflatable birth tub, tub liner, and all equipment and supplies for labor or birth in water - no need to rent or buy a birth
tub kit (these typically run around $200 to $300)
· medications needed for mother and baby during birth
· extra baby weight checks if desired
· filing all mandatory paperwork, including birth certificate and requesting a social security number for the baby
Additional Expenses
There will be a few other related costs, which vary widely from client to client. Nutritional or other natural supplements are the primary out-of-pocket expenses. Insurance generally covers lab testing for mother and baby, ultrasound scans, and prescription medications. In the unlikely event that mother or baby need a physician’s care, any hospital or doctors’ fees should be filed with insurance.
Insurance
If you have health insurance I will make every effort to help you obtain reimbursement for costs related to my services. Unfortunately, Medicaid will not at present reimburse for homebirth midwifery care. However, Medicaid will cover in full any lab tests and/or ultrasound exams that I order during the course of your care.
